FO explanation of the current status of the stadium please.

People say El Franco Lee wants the stadium put together with the Astrodome and other stuff. Political candidates are debating the stadium, aperently. It is now after Summer, the last time frame I heard from Oliver that the issues "might" be settled, as in "Lawers putting the deal on paper". Commissioners not talking. Can somone give us some inside info on the current status and prediction of the stadium issue please?????????

Montreal gets the $25 million approval from the Qubec government to expand Saputo stadium. Really nice place, expect Montreal to begin in 2012, or as Joey Saputo feels, 2011.

There is a discussion on the possible Galleria area site at http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=19778004&postcoun...

And Channel 13's report can be seen here:

Right now this looks possibly just too good to be true. I don't trust it somehow. But maybe I'm just being paranoid.

A truly fascinating idea and equally as good in many ways. This is not a suburban site, or at least not now. (It was a suburban site when I was growing up in Meyerland in the 1970s, but the only thing that proves is that I am old.) It's very urban and the one advantage is that it would not be competing with Minute Maid Park for parking on nights when both Ds are playing at the same time (Dynamo and the Dis-astros). It's also very close to many ethnic neighborhoods, of both affluence and not. And the freeways make it easily accessible.

However, would it be on or near a Metro rail line? I am not familiar with the Metro rail designs for that area, if indeed there are any. Anyone know?

I still prefer the downtown site, with the buildings rising in the background, but this is an intriguing idea to say the least.

TSU's involvement is part of the city's deal, right? Does this mean the city would be out of the picture? Or TSU? Do we really want the city out of the picture? That could be a good thing or a bad thing.

I really, REALLY hope this does not muddy the waters. The Westpark location is good, actually very good, but the downtown location would be better.

Wow, this sounds great! Especially if it gets the deal done faster! And if it allows tailgating...even better!!!

Interesting. Will the upcoming rally still be in the East End or is it going to be a wait and see?

Yeah, there sure hasn't been much movement since the downtown location was proposed.. maybe this will turn the tables: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/soc/6837680.html

Looks like a private developer may step in if the city does not play ball..

Again, there is a great discussion going on about this over at http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1276090&page=12.

Here's a point that DonJuego made that I think is highly germane here:

I'm not arguing the point on whether it is or not -- I'm saying it is not viewed as such by the County leaders.

And my reply:

DonJuego, you are right on the money there. If it was important to county commissioners in any way it would not have stalled over the last year and a half. El Franco Lee and Sylvia Garcia clearly have no interest in pursuing this stadium, though I wonder what having an empty lot there or any other development on that site would benefit them or the area greater than Dynamo Park.

Steve Radack, on the other hand, seems to be genuinely interested, perhaps philosophically, perhaps for some other reason. I don;t know. But seeing the Channel 13 report the other day has me thinking that. I still am not sure I trust Radack, and I know even less about this company who wants to develop that site, but righ now I'm very cautious.

And another great point from cbw2003

If the Dynamo want the best place to build the stadium, it is still Downtown. They should do whatever it takes to raise the $10 Million if they have to but they need to be downtown. In 100 years, the stadium downtown could still be a great investment. If built down Westpark, not so much.

The games Downtown could start with a pregame tailgate in the park next to the George R Brown Convention center and then all of the fans walk over to the game like they do in Seattle.

The stadium should be downtown. More fans will go to the game downtown opposed to a stadium on Westpark because it would be an event.... Just ask the Astros. They are were lousy yet still got 30,000 people to the games because people like to go Downtown to the ballpark.

Tell Oliver Luck to call all of the Billionaires in Houston and get them to donate the $10 Million as a writeoff. Whoever donates the money, The Dynamo would name the stadium after them. That is what I would do.

And cbw2003, a walk from Discovery Green over the five or six blocks to Dynamo Park would indeed be an epic sight to see. It would especially be wonderful to do this right in the shadow of Minute Maid late in the season, when Dynamo is readying another playoff run, while the Dis-astros are playing their horde of September call-ups.

And being the Celtic Supporter I am, I will continue to call this Dynamo Park, which I like far better than Dynamo Stadium. Though, truth be told, build it and name it whatever you want, and I will come. (Just please not Ibrox Texas!) :>

Geez wouldnt it be nice if the FO shed a little light on this?! Like, What are you thinking????!

No tailgating in Discovery Green. TSU still involved in the other deal. Whats important is getting a deal done and securing the team in Houston. Don't Vote For Bill White for Governor of TX. Send him looking for work like a lot of us.

In the CHron report, the Dynamo sound like they would be tenents.

The Dynamo Supporters' Alliance shall continue to focus our efforts on the much-preferred Plan A. The groundwork has already been laid for the downtown location, the feasibility studies have been conducted, the deal negotiated, and financing secured. Plan B, while an interesting idea, is a LONG way from being at the point where it could legitimately be called an alternative.

DSA set a goal of seeing county action on TIRZ 15 by the end of the first quarter 2010, before the Dallas season opener. Should we fail in this endeavour, the we will reevaluate Plan B at that point. One thing is certain - if you think the political climate is hostile now, just wait until we start approaching the end of the City's fiscal year. It's going to be a bloodbath, and if we're not moving earth with a deal in place by that point, its never going to happen. Plan B at that point becomes the fall-back position.

And it would seem the Bellair mayor will make sure thats a headache as well.

I just can't see the Galleria area being viable at all. The land is owned by the developer and let's face it, the bottom line for the Dynamo in building a stadium on City owned property is the ability to capture all of the revenue. I just don't see how that would happen with the property owned by the group which is proposing the Galleria area site, they're not gonna do it for soccer fans out of the goodness of their hearts.

Traffic would be a nightmare with no easy access. If I recall years ago, that area actually had an outdoor theatre called the Lone Star theatre or something like it.

According to the article from the Chronicle, Brad Freels who proposed the new site for the stadium and CEO of Midway Cos., is modeling his current plan after Mockingbird Station in Dallas. The development in Dallas is very nice and top class. It has a train station on site which would be similar to the proposed stadium site with Metro planning on building two light-rail lines at or near the site.

I'm still leaning towards the downtown stadium but this is NOT far behind. I just want a stadium asap!

Also here is a look at some of the other projects by Midway Cos: http://midwaycompanies.com/

Just want to mention there is a survey going at channel 13. Votes so far are: DT (38%), Galleria (24%), somewhere else (9%) or no stadium at all (28%).

Let me preface this by saying I don't think the Dynamo are done yet. They can still possibly squeak in like NY did several years ago and Real Salt Lake last year. (I think that's right). I'm exited about that underdog role. I just don't get why Odu…

We do have a 1st round pick (for the first time in awhile) and I hope we utilize it more than we have in years past. I have to believe that we'll be reshaping a roster this offseason dramatically and it seems quite clear that the Dynamo are done fo…
